ROOF TERRACE

An apartment on the second and last floor of a condominium building with a large flat roof above, bare and unusable. The request was to elaborate a project to be able to exploit this space as a real extension of the home where to spend the summer weekends in the shade, cooking outside with friends, watching football games.

A major obstacle was the narrow staircase from floor to floor which lead to a small door. To increase the feeling of connection between the two floors and also bring more light into the apartment, the project designed was to open a stairwell towards the terrace with the insertion of a large minimal framed window. Along the border a cabinet wall has been designed equipped with many closets, to store the impossible, while keeping the neighbours out of sight.

In a central position, under a large shady pergola, a relaxation area with two sofas and a big wall hung TV. The pergola was sized by analysing the movement of the sun ensuring a shaded area throughout the day. A long linear and minimal style kitchen without wall units completes the project.

Small groupings of pots to improve the microclimate and to guarantee privacy from the public street.
